Texas Online Defensive Driving FAQs
Cost, TDLR approval, ticket dismissal eligibility, certificates, and how TicketBeGone’s $30 course works.
These answers apply to TicketBeGone’s TDLR-approved Texas defensive driving course (provider CP1119). The course is six hours, self-paced, and $30.00 — the lowest price allowed by law. If you are using the course for ticket dismissal, confirm you qualify before you register and enter the court printed on your citation.
$30.00 — the lowest price allowed by law — all-inclusive. There are no hidden course costs and no upselling. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. The price includes the TDLR-approved Texas driving safety course, course access in English and Spanish, support, and a completion certificate emailed the following business day. There is no separate final exam.
Typical requirements: you hold a valid non-commercial Texas driver’s license; you have not completed a defensive driving course for ticket dismissal in the past 12 months; the violation did not occur in a construction zone with workers present; you were not speeding 25 mph or more over the limit; and you were not driving a commercial vehicle. The court on your citation has the final say. When in doubt, call that court before you pay.
Examples include speeding 25 mph or more over the limit, passing a stopped school bus, a construction-zone violation where workers are present, leaving the scene of an accident, fleeing from law enforcement, driving without insurance or a valid license, and holding a commercial driver’s license. This list is not a substitute for the court on your citation.
Yes, many insurers accept a TDLR-approved driving safety course for a discount. Ask your insurance provider first — they set the discount, not TicketBeGone. We email a PDF of your certificate the following business day after you finish so you can send it to them.

Yes. Any phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop with an internet connection will work. Progress is saved when you log out.
Six hours — the shortest defensive driving / driving safety course length Texas allows. You do not have to finish in one sitting.
No. Log in and out as many times as you like. When you return, the course picks up where you left off. Each session has an open-book progress check you must answer correctly before you continue. There is no separate final exam.
90 days from the date of purchase. If you are using the course for a court date, call the court that issued your citation if you are unsure when the certificate is due. Finish at least one week before that date.
The following business day after you complete the course, as a PDF emailed to you. We also transmit completion to TDLR the following business day. You must submit the certificate to the court that issued your citation, or to your insurer if that is why you enrolled.
Print another copy from the email that contains your PDF. If you deleted that email, call 315-750-0035 to have another certificate emailed for a nominal charge.
Contact the court that required the course and ask about an extension. It is better to complete the course than to let the deadline pass.
Select the ticketing county and court printed on your citation. A wrong court requires a corrected certificate, which has a charge, and TDLR requires you to return the original certificate first.
No. We transmit your completion to TDLR the following business day after you finish.
